A grant is basically free money that the government or private foundations are giving to people and groups. A personal grant is a grant that is received by an individual to be used for personal reasons. These reasons can be many different things such as for the purchase of a new home, repairing a current home, paying rent or paying for school supplies.

There are numerous grants available and everyone who would to like one is encouraged to apply. There is nothing to lose; it is free money. The application process is a bit long and can be in depth but again, it is for free money. This money will never have to be paid back. Once you receive the money, you can spend it on the personal needs as you see fit.

Grants can be given for an emergency basis or on a long-term basis. Depending on the need for the grant, that need will determine what basis the grant is given out. An emergency basis grant will be received in much faster time frame due to the use of the money.

Any amount of grants can be applied for. If you want to take the time to fill out the application, you will be looked at to see if you are a candidate to receive the grant. There is nothing to lose by applying for numerous grants. You will be applying for free money; money that will never have to be paid back.

No matter what your financial status, you can still apply for a grant. Whether you have a bankruptcy, a foreclosure, or have a bank account full of money, you can still apply for grants. All you need is a use for the money and to fill out the application. After the grant is approved for you, the money is yours and the process is finished. It is as simple as that.

The United States government and private foundations offer millions of dollars every year to the public to help businesses, organizations, non-profits, and individuals with specified projects. The recipients can get thousands of dollars sent directly to them for the purpose intended. These grants are earmarked only for the purpose intended and not for any general purpose.

Usually personal grants are given to individuals to help them better their lives. In essence, then, personal grants, are an opportunity provided by either the government or a foundation for changing communities and individuals for the better.

These personal grants are offered for a wide variety of things. They can help you start a new business, get out of debt, or even go back to school. They can also be used to secure a mortgage and get a a home. In essence, they are designed to promote personal success in something that would benefit you and your community.

You can qualify for a personal grant by filling in an application provided by the organization offering the grant. This application is reviewed and then a decision is made on it. This process of filling in an application, submitting it in, and waiting for approval need not take weeks or months. In fact, it’s possible to get approved and receive your funds in as little as a week.

Although a personal grant, unlike a loan, is free money, funds that you don’t have to pay back and that do not accrue interest, you have to use it for the purpose intended and not for anything you please. For example, if you get a personal grant for securing a mortgage, then it is a violation of your agreement to spend the money on building a business. Of course, there is nothing wrong with building a business, but if that was your intention, you should have applied for a personal grant specifically for starting a new business. When you use a personal grant for anything other than the purpose intended, you have to repay the grant back in full.

The US government and private foundations make a wide range of personal grants for any citizen or legal alien. These funds cover a broad range of human needs, aiming to provide a solution to a crisis or an opportunity for personal growth.

These personal grants can be classified either by specific demographics in need of assistance or by cultural trends that need financial assistance. Examples of funds for demographics are personal grants for disable people, veterans, and senior citizens. Example of funds for cultural trends are personal grants for day care costs, outstanding medical bills, and the provision of school supplies.

Your first step in qualification is addressing your own ethnic and cultural needs. You have to decide where you fit in with what is being offered for personal grants.

Personal grants cover hundreds of different needs. Here is a short list: housing assistance, home repair, public transportation, clothing, gasoline for cars, outstanding debts, rent, utilities, and living expenses.

Those who are either unemployed or underemployed are more eligible than those who are making a middle range to high income. Similarly, minority groups like Native Americans and Hispanics are more likely to get grants than other racial groups. These choices are not based on any bias but are aimed to provide where social needs are not being properly addressed.

Qualifications also depend on duration of funding. Some grants only offer long term funding, others only short term funding.

Although personal characteristics do count in getting selected for a personal grant, other factors also play a big role. Basically, the decision makers want to know if the personal grant will fit a need. The closer the fit, the more likely you are to get it.

Often, too, a person may not get a personal grant not because they fail to meet any of the qualifications, but simply because an earlier application met the criteria first for that particular personal grant.

The US government offers a large variety of personal grants for many different needs. Funds are available for personal crisis as well as for personal development.

Besides, the government some five thousand private foundations offer personal grants, as well. Some of the better known grants are for the disabled, veterans, and seniors. These and other personal grants exist for those who need the help.

Basically, you have to begin to choose what you need out of the many options available.

Do you need housing assistance, home repair, or public transportation? Do you need day care, clothing, or gas for your car? Do you need to pay some pressing bills like rent, utilities, medical bills, general living expenses? Do you want to purchase a car for someone who is disabled or buy a home or provide your children with school supplies?

All of these and much more are available when you look for personal grants.

However, you can’t select a grant for something and then spend it on something else because then you will be forced to repay the grant since you have broken the agreement and not used the money for what it was intended. You can’t, for example, apply for a personal grant for academic tutoring, but when you get it, use the money for home repair.

Once you have defined your need and identified the personal grant that addresses that need, your next step is to decide how long the need or situation will last? You can get a personal grant to take care of a short term emergency, like the cost of a medication, or for a long term event, like summer-long day care for your child.

After this, you have to decide how much money you need.

In addition, you can seek grants targeted for your ethnic or cultural group. For example, there are grants for Native Americans and Hispanics, as well as grants for the unemployed and the underemployed.

Once you’ve decided on what personal grant you need, the final step is to fill out an application, write out a grant proposal, and submit it as soon as possible, which should usually be well before the deadline.
